Learning Outcomes
What You Should Be Able to Do
- Select practice tasks that make strong portfolio samples
- Format samples so clients can scan them quickly
- Write context, task, process, and result notes
- Prepare testimonials or testimonial prompts ethically
1. What Counts as Portfolio Proof
Portfolio proof does not need to come from paid work. Practice work can still show your thinking, formatting, attention to detail, and ability to complete client-style tasks.
- Product listing sample with SEO keywords and image alt text
- Client email template or handoff message
- Portfolio website homepage draft
- Before-and-after improvement of a product description
2. Sample Format
Use the same simple structure for each portfolio item so it looks organized and professional.
- Project title: what the sample is
- Client-style brief: what the task asked for
- My process: what steps you followed
- Final output: the completed work or screenshot
3. Client-Ready Presentation
Clients should not have to guess what they are looking at. Add notes that explain the goal, tools used, and the result.
- Use clear headings and short paragraphs
- Show the completed work first, then explain your process
- Avoid claiming fake clients or fake results
- Label practice work honestly as "sample project" or "training project"
